RAF Set For No-Fly Syria Op

Introduction – Nov 11, 2012

We include the following article because it signals that the West is preparing for further intervention in Syria. Although it doesn’t spell out specific details its jingoistic tone is aimed at less astute readers in much the same way as similar articles about Iraq and Libya appeared shortly before ‘Western intervention’ there.

In both cases Western intervention only brought more bloodshed, rather than ‘freedom’.

The article appeared on the same day that British General Sir David Richards, the Chief of the Defence Staff, told the BBC’s Andrew Marr that plans were drawn up for putting troops in on the ground in Syria.

Although Gen Sir David Richards acknowledged that the plans are only for use in a ‘humanitarian crisis’, the fact that he revealed them on the same day as the following article appeared is probably more than mere coincidence.

In all likelhood such moves are probably being discussed and articles like the following and Gen. Sir David Richards announcement are meant to prepare the public for those discussions being acted on.

Still, readers can ignore the unnamed Whitehall aide’s assertion that “Cameron and Obama cannot allow Assad to bomb civilians”. First of all because there is little to substantiate the claim and if anyone is bombing civilians it’s the Western backed ‘Syrian rebels’.

Nonetheless, suggestions that Western powers may be planning to set up a no-fly zone over Syria are a cause for concern, as it would open the way for a much wider conflict. Such a move would probably prompt Iranian and ultimately Russian intervention, a likely development that the following article pointedly ignores.

RAF Set For No-Fly Syria Op

Daily Star – Nov 11, 2012

RAF Top Guns could soon be patrolling the skies over Syria under a new Cameron-Obama plan.

The Prime Minister is preparing to use the RAF to enforce no-fly zones across President Assad’s trouble-torn country in a bid to stop mass slaughter.

At this week’s National Security Council meeting in Downing Street Syria will be number one on the agenda.

According to Whitehall sources, British Special Forces are helping to train rebel assassination squads to target President Assad and his warlords.

Troops from the SAS, SBS and Paras from the Special Reconnaisance Regiment are in Syria helping show insurgents how to use new weapons and explosives.

Mr Cameron and newly re-elected US President Barack Obama are also considering military action and officially arming rebels.

The first stage of the plan involves a no-fly zone that will be patrolled by British, US and French forces. Safe havens will be set up in Syria, Turkey and Jordan.

A Whitehall aide said: “Cameron and Obama cannot allow Assad to bomb civilians.

“We can’t go in and do it but we can get someone there to have a go.

“A lot of the Free Syrian Army are ex-soldiers, they know how to shoot but need more training from our Special Forces, especially in key signals and communications equipment.”
