Samantha Power’s Embarrassing Dilemma

 photo smpower_zps7779806a.jpgLike many US officials, Samantha Power can’t quite seem to bring herself to criticize Israel, even as the Jewish state wages a genocidal campaign in Gaza.

But for Power this poses a particularly embarrassing dilemma in that she made her name as the author of a book on genocide. Her landmark 2002 book, A Problem from Hell: America in the Age of Genocide, derides US officials for turning a blind eye to ethnic massacres. But as you’ll see from the quotes supplied by Philip Weiss in his article, for the past several weeks she has practically bent over backwards to avoid mentioning Israel, even while expressing concern over civilian deaths in Gaza.
