ISIS Suffers Over 110 Casualties in Deir Ezzor; Civilians Rally in Support of the SAA in the City ~ Leith Fadel

Throngs of civilians took to the streets of Deir Ezzor City to show their support for the Syrian Arab Army last night. The late night rally was estimated to have at least 2,000 civilians present in the heart of the city, where the Syrian Arab Republic flag was being waved from vehicle to vehicle in this crowded area. Most civilians in Deir Ezzor did not hear U.S. President Barack Obama’s speech due to timezone differences; however, most are aware that this province is considered a primary target for U.S. airstrikes, as its proximity to the Iraqi border is concerning for U.S. officials.

ISIS has suffered heavy losses over the last four days, as their casualties have exceeded 110 militants in the Deir Ezzor Governate. According to a military source, ISIS has repeatedly failed to infiltrate the Syrian Republican Guard’s defenses at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, resulting in substantial losses and decreased morale. ISIS has reportedly removed all Syrian fighters from the Military Airport’s vicinity, leaving Chechen and Libyan militants to besiege the area.

The Syrian Arab Army asserted full-control over the Al-Rashidiyya Neighborhood after two days of violent clashes. Meanwhile in Al-Haweeqa, ISIS has been unable to advance their position due to powerful airstrikes from the Syrian Air Force. The Syrian Air Force has also targeted ISIS strongholds in Mouhassan, Al-Mayadeen, and Abukamal According to a civilian source, at least 40 airstrikes were conducted on Thursday, with the majority of the attacks concentrated near the Iraqi border.
